“Nathan, stay close to mommy.” Reese voice sounded through the bookstore. The airport was a busy place with lots of people running in and out gates and shops. Luckily Nathan was always nearby as he never wandered off unlike a lot of other two-year olds did when they discovered how fun it was to go explore the world. Still, Reese did not leave her son out of her sight, not even for a second. Right now her little guy was standing nearby near a big display that was decorated with a few stuffed animals as they were promoting books for young children or something of the sorts. Standing on his toes Nathan was trying to grab a rather large stuffed yellow duck toy.
From the corner of her eyes Reese watched Nathan while she grabbed a book from a shelve that she had been wanting to buy for a really long time now. It was supposed to be a dramatic but yet romantic love story of two people who were destined to be together but weren’t allowed by faith. The reviews had been great and since Reese was a sucker for romance this book would do perfectly for a long flight back to LA.
A soft but yet clear frustrated cry from Nathan, as he could not reach the stuffed duck toy, made Reese look up. “Momma!” Nathan called out, looking over at his mother as he pointed to the duck. Smiling, Reese walked over to her son and picked him up from the floor. “Wow that is a pretty huge duck honey. ” Kissing the top of his head loving she ran her hand softly through his hair. “Look, they have all kinds of books about ducks.” Holding Nate against her with one arm she reached out for a book that had a big yellow duck on the cover. For some reason he was obsessed with ducks and whenever he had seen one he’d become ecstatic from excitement.
It was clearly a book for young kids as the pages were pretty thick, making it less easy for kids to accidently rip a page out or in half. Putting Nathan down on the floor again Reese lowered herself through her knees and opened the book so Nathan could look into it. ”Wow, this is an awesome book. It has all kinds of pretty ducks in it.” There were a lot of pictures of drawn ducks that were playing in the water, flying or walking around through town. Nathan was a little to young to understand that all the pictures in the book were actually telling a story but knowing her boy Reese knew he’d probably love it anyway.
Taking the book from his mothers hands Nathan literally sat down in the middle of the aisle and started to point and laugh at the silly ducks in the book which were driving a red race car. Each duck had a small helmet on and a big grin on their faces. It didn’t take long before the store got filled with a young child’s laughs and giggles after that.
